Sri Lankan cricket team player Danushka Gunathilaka has suffered another setback. In fact, his bail appeal was rejected by the Sydney magistrate in the rape case. He was arrested on Sunday morning on rape charges and his bail application was rejected a day later. The Sri Lankan team returned home without playing their last match against England.
Outside the court, his lawyer Anand Amarnath said the decision was disappointing for him and that he would now appeal to the New South Wales Supreme Court. He has been charged with four counts of having sex without consent.
Talking about the performance of the Sri Lankan team in the World Cup, its journey ended in Super-12. The Sri Lankan team had won two out of the five matches of the Super 12 and lost in three matches. With the win in two matches, this team was able to earn only 4 points and finished the T20 World Cup 2022 by finishing fourth in the points table.
Earlier, the team had to compete with Associate Nations to qualify. In the qualification round, the team played 3 matches out of which 2 they won and qualified for Super-12.
