Indian captain Rohit Sharma can play T20 World Cup for India next year. According to a BCCI source, the board has left the decision of participating in next year's T20 World Cup to Rohit Sharma and if he wants to play, he will be selected.
Rohit Sharma has been slammed after the heart-breaking defeat in the final of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023. With very few ODI series scheduled to take place in the next few years, Rohit Sharma is not part of the T20I set-up. Rohit has not played any T20 match for India since the 10-wicket defeat against England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 played at the Adelaide Oval on November 10, 2022.
According to BCCI, if Rohit decides to leave the T20I format, only Hardik Pandya will get a chance to lead the team; Otherwise star batsman Rohit Sharma will remain the captain.
The Indian team has only three international series to play before going to the T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and America in 2024. The first T20 tournament begins on Thursday (November 23) against Australia, with the second series against South Africa. The third and last match in December will be played against Afghanistan in January.
