According to team co-owner Parth Jindal, Rishabh Pant will lead the Delhi Capitals in the opening half of the 2024 Indian Premier League but will not take wickets. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Jindal said that the Capitals anticipated that Anrich Nortje, a fast bowler from South Africa, would be ready to play in their inaugural match on March 23 against the Punjab Kings.
As of now David Warner is officially captain of DC for IPL 2024, but given the bad performance of Delhi in previous season of IPL 2023 it is very likely possible that Rishabh Pant will lead Delhi Capitals as captain in IPL 2024. Delhi Capitals' co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that star wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant will lead DC in the IPL 2024 but will not keep wickets for the first half of the season, which entails seven games. Parth revealed that Pant has started his wicketkeeping drills and is actively engaging in batting and running sessions.
"Rishabh is batting. He's running. He has started his wicketkeeping. He is likely to be fully fit for the IPL. I am expecting Rishabh to play IPL and he will lead from match one. First seven games, we are going to play him only as a batter, and depending on how his body reacts, we will take a call for the rest of the IPL," Jindal said while speaking to ESPN Cricinfo.
Rishabh Pant's outstanding numbers for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL only add to the excitement surrounding his comeback. Pant has scored 2838 runs in 98 IPL matches and has an impressive strike rate of 147.97. His impressive batting record includes one century and fifteen half-centuries.
Following a sabbatical caused by a vehicle accident in December 2022, Rishabh Pant has been preparing to return to cricket. He had multiple injuries, necessitating three successful surgeries throughout his rehabilitation.
On Tuesday, Pant also posted a video on his Instagram doing some wicketkeeping and mobility drills, which have become part of his lower-body conditioning over the past six weeks. On Wednesday, he batted and fielded in a 20-over match, which comprised a series of match-simulation exercises. The game was overseen by the BCCI medical staff.

There were no visible concerns. Pant is expected to play at least a few more such games before joining the Capitals. Once the BCCI clearance comes, he will join the side for a preparatory camp in Visakhapatnam, where the team will also play two home matches.
