Even before the start of the World Cup, Mitchell Starc has warned the batsmen by taking a hat-trick in the warm-up match. He achieved this feat in the warm-up game against Netherlands.
Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc created a stir against the Netherlands at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Mitchell Starc announced his comeback after taking a hat-trick during the practice match between the two countries.
This match, interrupted by rain, was scheduled for 23-23 overs. Australia batted first and scored 166/7 runs. Defending this score, Starc trapped Netherlands opener Max O'Dowd LBW on the fifth ball of the very first over.
Starc sent Wesley Barresi back to the pavilion with a golden duck on the very next ball. In the second over, he completed a hat-trick by uprooting the stumps of Bas de Leede on the very first ball. With this hat-trick, Starc has announced his comeback.
Mitchell Starc was the highest wicket-taker in the 2019 ODI World Cup. Mitchell Starc made a record by taking 27 wickets in 10 innings at an average of 18.59 and economy of 5.43. Starc had overtaken Grainne McGrath in one season in the history of the World Cup. The great Glenn McGrath took 26 wickets in 2007. Not only this, Mitchell Starc is 23 wickets away from becoming the bowler taking the highest wicket in World Cup history.
Starc is currently fifth on the all-time wicket-takers list in World Cup history with 49 wickets in 18 matches. Starc is 22 wickets short of equaling McGrath's record of 71 wickets in a World Cup career and will be desperate to reach the top spot in the upcoming season.
