Maharaja Trophy: 3 super overs in a match for the first time in T20 history

In the league of Maharaja Trophy T-20 tournament of Karnataka, 3 super overs had to be bowled in a single match. In the last super over also, the match was decided by hitting a four on the last ball. This thrilling match was played on Friday 23 August between Hubli Tigers and Bengaluru Blasters at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Hubli won it in the third over itself. This has happened for the first time in the history of T-20 cricket. Earlier, there were 2-2 super overs in many matches. In January this year, in the third match of the T-20 series between India and Afghanistan, India won after 2 super overs.

Bengaluru Blasters vs Hubli Tigers Match

The 17th match of the league stage of Maharaja Cup was played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Bengaluru Blasters won the toss and decided to bowl. Hubli Tigers Mohammad Taha scored 31, captain Manish Pandey scored 33, Anishwar Gautam scored 30 and Manwant Kumar scored 27 runs to take the score to 164.

Chasing the target of 165 runs, Bengaluru Blasters captain Mayank Agarwal scored 54 runs. Suraj Ahuja scored 26 and Naveen MG scored 19 runs to take the match to the last over. 6 runs were needed in the last over, Naveen hit a four on the very first ball. The team needed only 2 runs in the last 5 balls. Here Hubli's LR Kumar got Naveen caught out. Kumar bowled the next 2 dot balls. One run was scored on the fifth ball and he was run out on the last ball. Both could score only 164-164 runs and the match was tied.

Super Overs

First Super Over

Bangalore Blasters came out to bat first, Mayank Agarwal and Anirudh Joshi came to bat from the team's side. Hubli's LR Kumar bowled the over, he sent Mayank to the pavilion on the very first ball. Then he had given only 4 runs in 5 balls, but Anirudh hit a six on the last ball to take the score to 10 runs.

Hubli Tigers Manav Kumar and Manish Pandey came to bat for Bengaluru. Lavish Kaushal bowled the over for Bengaluru. Only 3 runs were scored off 3 balls, but Pandey hit a six on the fourth ball. 2 runs were needed off 2 balls, but Hubli batsmen could score only one run. The first super over was tied at 10-10 runs and both teams had to play the second super over.

Seconds Super Over

In the second super over, Hubli Tigers batted first, only Pandey and Manavant came out from the team. The team scored 8 runs with the help of 2 singles and 3 doubles. Bengaluru's Naveen MG did not allow a single boundary in the over.

Bengaluru Blasters LR Chetan and Anirudh Joshi came out. Vidwat Kaverappa bowled the over from Hubli and a four was hit on the first ball. The second ball was a dot, while Chetan got out while trying to take 2 runs on the third ball. 4 runs were needed on the last 3 balls, but Bengaluru could score only 3 runs. This time both the teams could score only 8-8 runs and the match reached the third super over.

Third Super Over

This time again Anirudh Joshi came to bat for Bengaluru Blasters, he was supported by Suraj Ahuja. Anirudh was caught out on the very first ball of Manwant Kumar. Manwant gave only 6 runs in 5 balls, but hit a six on the last ball, which made a total of 12 runs in the over.

Hubli Tigers needed 13 runs, Manav Kumar and Manish Pandey came to bat. 2 runs were scored on the first ball, 4 on the second ball and 1 on the third ball. The fourth ball was a dot and the next was wide. Now 5 runs are needed on 2 balls, here Pandey took one run.

4 runs were needed on the last ball, Manvantha hit 4 runs on the last ball and Hubli Tigers somehow won the thrilling match in the third super over.
