IPL 2024 Playoffs: The league stage matches of IPL 2024 have concluded. Now it is the turn of playoff matches. The first qualifier of IPL will be played between KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad. After this, the eliminator match will be held between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals and after that there will be a second qualifier match. However, if it rains during these matches, then what will be the situation?
During IPL 2024, many matches have been canceled due to rain in the last few days. One match in Ahmedabad was canceled due to rain and two matches of IPL playoff are also to be held in Ahmedabad. In such a situation, there is a curiosity in the minds of the fans whether a reserve day has been kept for the IPL playoffs like the final or not.
According to the rules, if the match is delayed due to rain, an extra 2 hours will be given to complete it. In the playoffs, 2 hours are being given, whereas during the league match, this time is 1 hour, that is, efforts will be made to complete it on the same day on which the match is taking place. However, there is a lot of confusion regarding whether there is a reserve day for the playoff matches or not. It is being claimed in many media reports that a reserve day has been kept for the IPL playoffs. That means if the match cannot be played on the match day due to rain, it will be played the next day. It is being said in some media reports that no reserve day has been kept for the playoffs.
If there is no reserve day for the playoff and it rains, then the umpire will try to conduct a match of at least 5 overs. If even a match of 5 overs cannot be held then there will be a super over and if due to continuous rain even the super over cannot be held then the match will be declared cancelled. In such a situation, the team which is higher in the points table will move ahead.

There is no reserve day for any match except the IPL 2024 final. Yes, if rain disrupts Qualifier-1, Eliminator and Qualifier-2, then the umpires will have additional 120 minutes to conduct the match of at least 5 overs each. If even 5 overs cannot be played due to rain then the umpire will try to get the result through a super over. Even if the super over is not possible then the decision will be taken on the basis of points table ranking.
There is no clarity yet regarding the reserve day of the IPL 2024 final, but last season the final played between CSK and GT was played on the reserve day. In such a situation, it can be expected that this season too there will be a reserve day for the final match. If rain disrupts the reserve day of the IPL 2024 final match to be played in Chennai, then the umpires will look to play at least 5 overs each.
What if KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 gets canceled due to rain: In the match between Hyderabad and KKR, if rain disrupts the match and the match cannot be played, then which team will get the advantage? If the match could not start by the cutoff time due to rain and had to be cancelled, then the Kolkata team would directly enter the final. The reason for this is that KKR team was on top in the points table and will get the benefit from it, whereas in such a situation, Hyderabad team will have to go to Chennai for Qualifier-2.
