Could India not win even a single test in Cape Town?

The second match of the Test series between India and South Africa will be played in Cape Town from January 3, 2024. India played 6 Tests at the Newlands ground in Cape Town and the team did not win even one. Whereas South Africa played 24 matches on this ground and won 45.8% i.e. 10 matches.

The most successful foreign team at Newlands Stadium is Australia, the team won 71% of the tests here. England and New Zealand have also got success on this ground but no team from Asia could win a single match here. Now Asia's top team India will face South Africa to save the Test series from January 3 in Cape Town itself. The team is trailing 0-1 in the 2-Test series.

Only 11 out of 59 tests were drawn

So far 59 Test matches have been played at the Newlands ground in Cape Town. The team batting first 23 times and bowling first 25 times won. Only 11 Tests were drawn on this ground. There are very few Test draws in Cape Town. Since 2000, 28 Tests have been played here and results have come in 23. Only 5 tests were drawn.

England-Australia won 10-10 tests in Cape Town


Among foreign teams, only England and Australia have been able to perform well in Cape Town. Australia played 14 Tests here, they won 71.4% of the matches i.e. 10. Australia is the most successful team in Cape Town, they have won a higher percentage of matches here than home team South Africa. England won 10 out of 21 Tests in Cape Town, while New Zealand won once in 5 Tests here.

South Africa did not lose to any Asian team here

South Africa played 59 matches in Cape Town, winning 27 and losing 21. The team played 11 draws but never allowed any Asian team to win. The team did not even lose to West Indies and Zimbabwe here. South Africa played 19 Tests in Cape Town against West Indies, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India. The team won 16 and only 3 tests were drawn. Since 2000, South Africa has played 28 Tests here, winning 19 and losing only 4. The remaining matches were draws.

This means that South Africa remains in excellent form on this ground and becomes even better against Asian teams.

India looking for first win at Newlands


Team India is looking for its first win at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. The team played 6 tests here, lost 4 and only 2 matches were drawn. India drew 2 tests under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin. The team lost twice under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, while the team also lost once each under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

Rabada has taken 42 wickets in Cape Town

Elgar scores 2nd century at Newlands, he will play his last test

Four former South African batsmen have scored more than one thousand runs at Newlands. In the current squad, the team's stand-in captain Dean Elgar has scored 741 runs by scoring 2 centuries. He will also play the last test of his career in Cape Town, after this test he will take retirement. It was Elgar who played an important role in India defeating the Test match by playing an inning of 185 runs in the first Test of the current series.

Pant has scored a century in Cape Town, he is not part of the squad

The performance of India's batsmen was nothing special on the Cape Town ground. Except Sachin Tendulkar, no batsman has been able to score more than 200 runs. Sachin has scored 489 runs in 4 tests here with the help of 2 centuries.


Rishabh Pant had scored a century on the last tour but he is not a part of the current Indian squad. Virat Kohli, included in the squad, scored 141 runs in 2 matches played in Cape Town. He has scored a fifty here. In the second test too, the responsibility of Indian batting will once again rest on the shoulders of Kohli. He had played innings of 38 and 76 runs in the first test.

Bumrah has taken 10 wickets in Newlands


The Newlands ground has been helpful for fast bowlers, despite this only 3 Indian bowlers could take more than 10 wickets here. Jasprit Bumrah, who is included in the current squad, has taken 10 wickets in just 2 tests here. He had also taken 5 wickets in the innings on the same ground on the last tour.
