Australia announces to hold ICC Mens T20 World Cup 2022 in seven cities

Next years Twenty20 World Cup will be held across seven venues in Australia, officials confirmed Tuesday, with Sri Lanka and the West Indies forced to play for a place in the Super 12

ICC Mens T20 World Cup 2022

The 2022 Mens ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be the eighth ICC Mens T20 World Cup tournament, scheduled to be played in October and November 2022 in Australia. Originally, the tournament was to be held in 2020, however, in July 2020, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the tournament had been postponed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2020, the ICC also confirmed that Australia would host the rearranged tournament in 2022,

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021

Hosts Australia will be defending champions after hammering New Zealand by eight wickets in Dubai on the 2021 World cup, with both of this years finalists automatically qualifying for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stage along with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, and South Africa who are the eight highest-ranked teams.

Seven host cities in Australia

The event which is scheduled to take place between 16 October and 13 November next year will see a total of 45 matches hosted across seven cities.

  • Geelong
  • Hobart
  • Melbourne
  • Perth
  • Sydney

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Final will be hosted under lights at the MCG on 13 November 2022. The semi-finals will be hosted at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Adelaide Oval on 9 and 10 November, respectively.

Two-time champions West Indies will participate in Round 1

Namibia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies will play in Round 1. The four remaining spots at Australia 2022 will be filled via the ongoing qualification pathway, culminating in two global qualifying tournaments one to take place in Oman in February and the other in Zimbabwe in June/July.
