The Cheapest Oil for India: Which Country in the World Sells the Cheapest Oil to India?: Amidst rising global tensions and fluctuations in fuel prices, India's crude oil procurement strategy has become more critical than ever before. Global trade routes are shifting due to supply disruptions and sanctions. Against this backdrop, India is actively importing oil from various countries.

India's Most Affordable Oil Supplier

Currently, Russia stands as the largest and most affordable supplier of crude oil to India. India is importing oil from Russia at a rate of approximately $94 per barrel. This is significantly lower compared to other global suppliers. Russia's share of India's total oil imports has ranged between 31% and 41%.

However, in the aftermath of the Ukraine conflict, Russia initially offered substantial discounts—up to $35 per barrel. Nevertheless, due to geopolitical pressures and sanctions, this discount has now dwindled to a mere $2 to $3 per barrel.

Venezuela and Iran—

India is actively exploring new, cost-effective alternatives such as Venezuela and Iran. Venezuela has re-emerged as a supplier following the easing of sanctions by the United States. Similarly, Iran has resumed oil supplies to India after a hiatus of nearly seven years.

Traditional Suppliers—

In addition to sources of discounted oil, India continues to import oil from traditional suppliers such as the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates. Among these, the United States is the most expensive supplier. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the UAE remain key suppliers due to their reliability; however, their prices are generally higher than those of Russia.

Logistics and Transportation Costs—

Transportation plays a pivotal role in determining the final cost. It takes only three days for oil from Saudi Arabia to reach India. Furthermore, the associated freight costs are relatively low. Consequently, despite the higher base price, it remains a viable option. In comparison, Russian oil takes approximately 15 days to arrive, while shipments from the United States can take anywhere from 45 to 50 days.
