Olympics 2024: Ramita Jindal creates history

Ramita finished fifth with a total of 631.5 points in the 60-shot qualifying round, while her teammate Elavenil Valarivan missed this round. Ramita has become the second female shooter in the last 20 years to make it to the medal round. Earlier, Manu Bhaker achieved this feat. Ramita is the first Indian female rifle shooter to make it to the Olympic final after coach Suma Shirur (Athens 2004).

Ramita Jindal has reached the final of the women's 10 meter air rifle event. Ramita scored 631.5 points in the 60-shot qualifying round and till the end it seemed that she would not be able to qualify, but Ramita secured 5th place in the ranking and made it to the medal round. Elavenil was leading in the first half, but later her performance dropped and she eventually finished 10th in the qualifying round. Korea's Hyojin Bun also created an Olympic qualification record by winning the round with 634.5 points.

In the 10 meter air pistol event, Ramita started from third position by scoring 10.5 and 10.9 points in the first two shots. At the same time, Elavenil's first shot was 10.6 and she reached 8th position. But Elavenil reached third position with her third shot, while Ramita's ranking started falling. Elavenil consistently hit good shots, her lowest score was 10.4. During this time she was in 5th position. Ramita scored 104.3 in the first round and 106 in the second, 104.9 in the third, 105.3 in the fourth, 105.3 in the fifth and 105.7 in the sixth series. Elavenil's first series ended with 105.8 points and she came in fourth position. At the same time, the final of this event will be played tomorrow i.e. on 29th July.
