The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced that Phase 2A of Metro Line 3, connecting Colaba to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), is expected to be operational by the end of March 2025. According to reports, 93.1% of the total work on this stretch has been completed.
Station construction is almost complete, with 98.9% of the work finished. The remaining architectural and system installations are in progress and will be completed soon. MMRC is making efforts to ensure a smooth rollout of this metro corridor, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Colaba and BKC.
The new metro line will play a crucial role in reducing congestion on existing routes, offering a faster and more efficient alternative for daily commuters. The government and MMRC are prioritizing the completion of this stretch to enhance urban mobility.
The Mumbai Underground Metro began operations in October 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase, connecting Aarey Colony JVLR to BKC. This new addition is a step toward a more extensive and efficient metro network in Mumbai.
Metro Line 3 currently operates between Aarey and BKC, featuring ten stations: BKC, Bandra Colony, Santacruz, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) T1, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2, Marol Naka, Andheri, SEEPZ, and Aarey Colony JVLR.
MMRC runs 96 daily services on this metro line. The corridor also connects Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, offering a convenient transit option for travellers. Additionally, it links with Mumbai Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova) at Marol Naka station.
The upcoming Phase 2A of Metro Line 3 will further ease commuting and contribute to Mumbai’s expanding metro infrastructure. With its full completion, residents can look forward to a modern, efficient, and well-connected metro system that transforms daily travel in the city.
