Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the KIIT School of Public Policy on Sunday, underscoring the importance of public policy in navigating India’s path forward. His remarks highlighted the role of a robust policy framework in building a resilient nation, particularly in a world increasingly drawn to India’s peace-centric approach, rooted in the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family.
A well-drafted public policy is the foundation of a strong nation, stated Birla during his address. He also commended the visionary efforts of KIIT and KISS founder, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, whose contributions to education and tribal empowerment have consistently advanced social equity in Odisha and beyond. Dr. Samanta’s initiatives through KIIT and the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have impacted countless lives, particularly within tribal communities, providing them with accessible education and pathways to success.
The newly inaugurated School of Public Policy will offer a one-year Master’s program in collaboration with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC), aimed at shaping a new generation of leaders equipped to address India’s domestic and global challenges. The program, scheduled to begin in the upcoming academic session, will cover a wide range of pressing issues, such as sustainable development, governance, and international relations, aligning with India’s growing stature in global diplomacy and social innovation.
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo praised Dr. Samanta’s substantial impact on the educational landscape, noting that Odisha is fortunate that Achyuta Samanta is working for the cause of education. The ceremony also included remarks from key dignitaries such as Speaker Surama Padhy, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, and MP Aparajita Sarangi. Additionally, former Vice-President of Ecuador, Otto Ramon Sonnenholzner Sper, shared insights, highlighting the universal importance of strategic public policy. ICWA Additional Secretary Nutan Kapoor Mahawar and filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi further enriched the discussion, underscoring the role of effective policy in shaping inclusive and progressive societies.
This development marks a significant leap forward in Indian public policy education, reaffirming India’s commitment to fostering world-class leadership through academia and aligning with global standards in governance and international cooperation.
