The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2024 Awards ceremony was a glittering tribute to the excellence of Indian cinema, held in the glamorous setting of Abu Dhabi on September 28, 2024. This prestigious event, renowned for its global outreach, brought together the industry’s finest talents under one roof, celebrating the best of the past year. The evening was packed with thrilling moments, big wins, and powerful performances, making it a night to remember.
The coveted Best Actor Award went to Bollywood’s iconic superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, for his stellar performance in the blockbuster Jawan. SRK’s portrayal of a vigilante with a complex moral compass left audiences in awe, further cementing his position as one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema. On the other hand, Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for her moving performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Her powerful role as a mother fighting against an entirely foreign system to protect her child resonated deeply with both critics and audiences alike.
The grand honour of Best Film was awarded to Animal, a gripping tale starring Ranbir Kapoor. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and produced by Bhushan Kumar, was lauded for its intense storytelling, stellar performances, and technical brilliance. It’s no surprise that Animal dominated the night, also winning accolades for Best Supporting Actor, Best Music Direction, and more.
Veteran filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra took home the Best Director award for his biopic 12th Fail, which narrates the inspiring story of an underdog IPS officer, Manoj Sharma. Vikrant Massey, who portrayed Sharma in the film, was also praised for his performance.
This year’s IIFA was not just a single awards night but a full-fledged celebration spread across three exciting days, from September 27 to September 29. The first day, IIFA Utsavam, was dedicated to honouring the exceptional contributions of the South Indian film industry, while the main event took place on Day 2. The festival will culminate with IIFA Rocks, a starry night devoted to the Indian music industry, co-hosted by Bollywood favourites Siddhant Chaturvedi and Abhishek Banerjee.
