Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has confiscated properties worth Rs 97.79 crore belonging to Raj Kundra, the actor Shilpa Shetty's spouse. This contains Shilpa Shetty's apartment in Juhu. The incident is connected to a nearly Rs 7,000 crore Bitcoin Ponzi scam. The ED has attached properties, including stock interests in Raj Kundra's name and a home in Pune. The probe was launched following the filing of many FIRs against Variable Tech Private Limited and other parties, including Amit Bhardwaj, charged with amassing Bitcoin worth Rs 6,600 crore in 2017.
Investors were promised huge returns but they were tricked because Bitcoin was stashed away in enigmatic online wallets. Raj Kundra reportedly received 285 Bitcoin from Amit Bhardwaj for a mining farm in Ukraine. These assets, estimated to be worth Rs 150 crore, are believed to be the proceeds of criminal activity. According to the investigating agency, Amit Bhardwaj, the originator and promoter of the Gain Bitcoin Ponzi scheme, gave Raj Kundra 285 Bitcoins in exchange for him starting a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine.
Ajay Bhardwaj and Mahendra Bhardwaj, the primary suspects, are still at large while Simpy Bhardwaj, Nitin Gaur, and Nikhil Mahajan have been placed under custody.
Prashant Patil, an advocate, has stepped forward to provide an update on the case. In an interview with the media, he declared, "We will protect my clients' property and freedom by adhering to the rules of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and taking appropriate legal action." There doesn't appear to be a strong case against my clients, Mr. Raj Kundra and Mrs. Shilpa Shetty Kundra. We have total confidence in the judiciary. Even the investigating agencies could be willing to provide us justice if we submit a fair case before the Honorable Enforcement Directorate, in my opinion. We trust the impartial inquiry. We are dedicated to working with the authorities when necessary.
