Assamese Actor Sumi Bora to Surrender in Stock Market Scam Case
Guwahati, September 11 (PTI) – Sumi Bora, a well-known Assamese actor, choreographer, and social media influencer, will surrender after police issued a 'Look Out' circular for her involvement in a multi-crore stock market trading scam. Speaking from an undisclosed location, Bora said she decided to surrender after defamatory reports circulated about her, her family, and her associates. She stated that she was willing to 'fully cooperate with the police' and explained that she was not absconding but was in hiding due to the mental harassment caused by media reports.

Sumi Bora expressed her frustration with the media’s portrayal of her, saying, 'The media has conducted my trial and hanged me even before the courts could begin the legal process.' She pointed out that only a small portion of the media reports are accurate and that the rest have caused significant mental stress for her and her family. Despite this, Bora remains confident that the legal system will provide her justice based on evidence.
Investigation and Allegations
The Assam Police issued a 'Look Out' circular for Bora, her husband Tarkik Bora, her brother Rajib Bora, his wife Jinki Mili, and two others after they did not appear for police questioning. The case is connected to a stock market scam that allegedly defrauded investors of hundreds of crores. Last week, 22-year-old Bishal Phukan, the owner of the company responsible for the scam, was arrested with his manager in Dibrugarh. Investigations revealed that Phukan had spent lavishly on Bora, including financing her high-profile wedding in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The CID and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) have taken over the case.
Bora’s Next Steps
Although Sumi Bora has not disclosed where she will surrender, her statement reflects her intent to clear her name through the courts. She expressed faith in the legal system and believes that evidence will prevail over media reports. As the investigation progresses, Bora hopes to restore her reputation and put the issue behind her.
The case will continue to unfold, with the Special Investigation Team playing a key role in determining the outcome. For now, all attention is on Sumi Bora as she prepares to surrender and cooperate with authorities.
