The India national cricket team, commonly known as Team India, represents the country in international cricket and is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is one of the most successful teams globally, competing in all three formats—Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I).

The India men's national cricket team, represents India in men's international cricket. It is governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India and is a full member of the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International, and Twenty20 International status. The men's team is the current Twenty20 World Champions.

The team has played 589 Test matches, winning 181, losing 184, with 223 draws and 1 tie. As of November 2024, India is ranked second in the ICC Test Championship with 111 rating points. India has played in two of the three World Test Championship finals, finishing runners-up in both (2021 and 2023), while finishing third in 2025.

History & Achievements

India played its first Test match in 1932 against England at Lord’s, but the team’s rise to prominence came in the 1970s and 1980s with legendary players like Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. The biggest turning point in Indian cricket was winning the 1983 Cricket World Cup under Kapil Dev’s captaincy, defeating the mighty West Indies.

India won its second ODI World Cup in 2011, led by MS Dhoni, making history on home soil. The team has also won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, and multiple Asia Cups.
