The 2026 Argentine Primera B Metropolitana is the official 129th season of the professional third-division football league, primarily featuring clubs from the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. The tournament will run from February to December 2026 and will utilize a multi-stage promotion and relegation system.
League format
- Two Short Tournaments: The season is divided into two distinct parts: the Torneo Apertura (opening tournament) and the Torneo Clausura (closing tournament). In each tournament, all 22 teams play against one another once.
- Championship Final: If two different teams win the Apertura and Clausura, they face each other in a two-legged championship final. The overall winner earns direct promotion to the second division (Primera Nacional). If the same team wins both tournaments, it secures promotion without a final.
- Torneo Reducido (Promotion Play-off): Teams that rank high in the aggregate table (combining results from both the Apertura and Clausura) but do not win either tournament qualify for a post-season play-off. The winner of this play-off earns a spot in the promotion play-off.
- Relegation: At the end of the year, the two teams finishing at the bottom of the aggregate table are directly relegated to the fourth tier, Primera C.
