WTC Final Qualification: A two-match Test series between India and Sri Lanka is set to begin on August 15. India currently holds the fifth spot on the ICC WTC 2025-27 points table with a winning percentage of 48.15%. Ahead of the Sri Lanka tour, former cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has issued a warning to the Indian team led by Shubman Gill and explained the mathematical permutations required to reach the WTC final.

According to Aakash Chopra, the outcome of the series against Sri Lanka will significantly impact India's win percentage:
- 2-0 Win: India's win percentage will rise to 57.58%, easing the path to the final.
- 1-1 Draw: India's win percentage will see a marginal increase to 48.48%, with no change in their ranking (5th place).
- 0-2 Loss (Clean Sweep): India's percentage will drop to 39%, while Sri Lanka (61%) will move up to the fourth spot.

How will India reach the WTC final?

India still has a total of 9 Test matches remaining in this cycle (2 against Sri Lanka, 2 against New Zealand, and 5 against Australia):
- Winning 9 out of 9 matches: India's win percentage will reach 74.07%, virtually guaranteeing qualification for the WTC final.
- Winning 8 out of 9 matches: India will remain in a strong position and stay in the race for the final.
- Upcoming Challenges: Two Tests in New Zealand in November 2026 and five Tests against Australia at home in January 2027 are yet to be played.
Australia's Win Percentage Will Also Drop
Currently, Australia sits at the top with 87.50%, but they have 14 Tests remaining. Their win percentage is bound to decline due to tough upcoming tours against South Africa and New Zealand. To stay in the race, Australia must win at least 10 out of 14 matches.
