PCB Appoints Former Cricketer as Batting Coach: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a major administrative decision regarding its national team just ahead of the upcoming three-match Test series against England. Former South African first-class cricketer Mike Smith has been appointed as the new head batting coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team.
Michael Smith's tenure will officially begin with the first Test match scheduled to be played at Headingley.

Michael Smith holds the highest and most prestigious professional cricket coaching qualification, the 'Level 4 Batting Coaching Qualification'.
Additionally, he brings extensive experience in Global T20 and franchise cricket.- PSL Experience: Smith has previously worked with several teams, including the popular Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Multan Sultans.
- Understanding of Pakistan Players: Having worked in the PSL, he is well-versed in the playing styles, strengths, and weaknesses of many Pakistani batters.

Asad Shafiq's New Role in Pakistan Cricket Setup

Michael Smith will replace former international batter Asad Shafiq, who had been serving as the team's interim batting coach since April 2026.
Once Smith takes over the full-time responsibility, Asad Shafiq will step away from coaching duties entirely to focus on his role as a national selector.
