Why Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar do not want to retire

ODI World Cup 2027It is widely believed that the careers of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are nearing their end, and Team India's selectors have already moved past them. Although Rohit Sharma remains part of the ODI squad and even scored a magnificent century in the Lord's ODI reports suggest that Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar does not intend to select him for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

However, these players are not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Neither is Rohit Sharma contemplating retirement, nor are Shami and Bhuvi dropping out of the race; all three are putting in tremendous effort and performing well. Amidst this, a surprising claim has emerged regarding the reasons why these players are reluctant to retire.

Why aren't Rohit, Shami, and Bhuvi retiring?

According to a report, players like Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ishant Sharma do not wish to retire because doing so would jeopardize their IPL contracts, brand deals, and similar opportunities.

So, are these players holding off on retirement for the sake of money? Regardless of the reason, one thing is clear: Rohit, Shami, and Bhuvi are performing exceptionally well.

Rohit scored a century in the last match

Questions were constantly being raised about Rohit Sharma. After failing in the first two matches of the ODI series in England, rumors began circulating that the Lord's ODI would be the final match of his career; however, he went on to score a century at Lord's. He amassed 175 runs in the ODI series at an average of 58.33. Additionally, the BCCI clarified that Rohit is not retiring.

Bhuvneshwar and Shami Shine

Speaking of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he delivered a stellar performance in IPL 2026, claiming 28 wickets and playing a pivotal role in leading RCB to the championship title. Currently, he is also performing exceptionally well in the UP T20 League.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami propelled his team to the Duleep Trophy final by taking five wickets against Central Zone in the semi-final. Clearly, despite their advancing age, these players are in magnificent form and show no signs of slowing down.
