IND vs ENG: ICC warns Indian pacer Gurnoor Brar, committed a major error during the match

Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been found guilty of violating ICC regulations during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston. Consequently, he has received an official warning from the ICC, and one demerit point has been added to his record.

Which rule was violated? (Why was Gurnoor Brar warned?)

Gurnoor Brar was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This rule pertains to "throwing the ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an international match."

What happened in the 8th over of the match?

The incident occurred during the 8th over (7.5 overs) of England's innings. English batsman Ben Duckett played a straight drive off a full-length delivery from Gurnoor Brar. Brar fielded the ball and, without thinking, threw it directly towards Duckett. The ball passed very close to Ben Duckett. The ICC deemed this throw "inappropriate and dangerous."

Umpires' complaint and Match Referee's decision

On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Russell Warren jointly lodged a complaint against the player regarding this matter.

The Indian fast bowler immediately admitted his offense and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Richie Richardson. Due to the admission of guilt, no formal hearing was required in this case.
