Indian Premier League (IPL) started in the year 2008 and since then there have been many changes in this league. Many rules have come in the league, be it time out or impact player. A new rule is going to be implemented in the league once again this season.
This rule is of the second new ball which will be seen in IPL-2025. This rule will be implemented to reduce the effect of dew. Due to dew, bowlers have trouble catching the ball, which benefits the batsmen. To deal with this, now two new balls will be used in the IPL.
This rule will not apply to all matches. It will apply to matches that will be played at night. Under the rule, the field umpire will check the condition of the ball after the 11th over of the second innings. If there is excess dew on the ball, the bowling team will be allowed a new ball. This rule will protect the bowlers from being vulnerable in dewy conditions. This rule will not apply to matches played during the day.
Apart from this, another change will be seen this season. The BCCI has approved the use of saliva to shine the ball. It was banned during Covid and bowlers could not shine the ball by applying saliva, however the IPL lifted the ban on it. The ICC has retained it till now. In a meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, the captains of most of the IPL franchises agreed to lift the ban.
