Suryakumar Yadav Breaks Silence On India T20 Captaincy Loss: Suryakumar Yadav, the former T20 captain of the Indian cricket team, also known as the 'New Mr. 360 ', has recently opened up about the pain of being abruptly dropped from Team India and stripped of the captaincy. Surya spoke candidly about the disappointment of losing the captaincy despite having successfully led the T20 team for nearly two years.
During an exclusive conversation with former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra, Surya admitted that being suddenly dropped from the very team he had helped lead to major titles such as the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup was heartbreaking.
Surprised By Selection Decision But Respect Selectors' Mindset

Recalling the moment he lost the captaincy and was dropped from the squad, Suryakumar Yadav said:
"I was surprised. When the team was selected without me, I just smiled. I had played continuous cricket with the team for two years and thought I would take the squad forward with the Olympics and the next T20 World Cup on the horizon. But what you think and what the other person thinks are two different things. It is also important to respect their mindset."
Surya added that he did not react sharply to the decision at the time. He felt the selectors might have believed the team could perform even better under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. Having played a lot of cricket alongside Iyer, Surya expressed confidence in his leadership skills.

Why Change Leadership When Team Was Winning Everything

The regret of being dropped despite the team's success was clearly evident in Surya's words. He remarked that this sudden change was baffling, especially after going two years without losing a single bilateral series and winning both the World Cup and the Asia Cup.
"For a month or two, I kept wondering how this could happen to me. We had just won the World Cup. Yes, the IPL season hadn't gone well, but my family supported me and helped me understand that this is just a part of life."

Surya also clarified that he was informed of the decision via a phone call two or three days before the team selection. He believes that whoever made the decision must have done so with the team's best interests in mind.
He admitted that losing the captaincy was heartbreaking, but his passion for cricket remains undiminished. Surya sent a clear message that he is still actively playing cricket and stands fully ready to contribute whenever the Indian team needs him.
