Shardul Thakur undergoes successful foot surgery post IPL 2024

Team India all-rounder Shardul Thakur underwent successful foot surgery on Wednesday, June 12, and is anticipated to be out of competitive cricket for at least three months. The 32-year-old batsman posted a post-surgery shot on his Instagram profile with the statement, Operated successfully.

This is Thakur's second foot operation; the first occurred five years ago in 2019. The issue returned on the South African tour earlier this year. Despite the setback, Thakur performed effectively in the Ranji Trophy last season, helping Mumbai capture its 42nd title. He has suggested that the BCCI provide lengthier pauses between matches to ensure that the players have ample rest and preparation time.

This season, Thakur participated for CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but his performance was lacking; in nine games, he took just five wickets at an economy rate of 9.75.

Regarding his return, there's no official news yet, but those with knowledge of the matter estimate that Thakur will need three months to resume training. Therefore, he may return before or precisely during the forthcoming domestic season.

He has three months to heal and get back into shape, so he may make a big comeback in time for the Test series between Australia and India. Thakur is a vital member of the squad because of his flexibility as a middle-order batsman and effective medium-pace bowler. Both team members and supporters will be hoping for a stronger, more resilient return from him.
