Sahibzada Farhan to Replace Agha Salman as T20I Captain: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing for a major leadership change in its T20 team. Ahead of the crucial upcoming series against Sri Lanka, 30-year-old opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan is highly likely to be appointed as the new full-time T20I captain. This decision will mark the end of Salman Ali Agha's tenure as T20 captain. The PCB is expected to formalize this leadership change soon alongside the official squad announcement.

The primary reasons behind Farhan taking the helm are his excellent recent form and his impressive leadership qualities on the field.
- Impressive Leadership at Asian Games 2026: Farhan recently led Pakistan's second-string team at the 2026 Asian Games held in Japan. Under his captaincy, the team reached the final, where Pakistan had to settle for the runner-up spot (silver medal) after a narrow 19-run defeat to India.
- Backing from Head Coach Mike Hesson: Farhan made his T20I debut in 2018 but struggled to cement his place in the team during his early years. His career gained real momentum in 2025 when Mike Hesson took over as head coach. Under Hesson's guidance, Farhan received consistent opportunities, which he capitalized on by showcasing his talent.

Why Agha Salman Is Losing Pakistan T20I Captaincy

While Salman Ali Agha commanded respect among his teammates, his statistics and decisions as captain were consistently under scrutiny.
- Major Losses in Multi-Nation Tournaments: Pakistan suffered three defeats against India during the 2025 Asia Cup. Furthermore, the team's early exit from the T20 World Cup proved to be a major blow to his captaincy.
- Outdated Batting Style for Modern T20 Cricket: Agha's conservative, cautious batting technique did not align with the fast-paced, aggressive style of modern T20 cricket. His batting approach appeared effective only on slow, low-scoring pitches.
- Setback During England Tour: The recent tour of England further weakened his position. He captained the side in the first Test in Babar Azam's absence but was dropped for the second Test due to a poor performance. After Pakistan fell behind 0-2 in the series, they were sent back home midway through the tour.
