IND vs WI 3rd ODI: India and West Indies fined heavily for slow over-rate; here are the details

The Indian cricket team has been fined 20 percent of its match fee, and the West Indies team 10 percent, due to a slow over-rate during the third and final ODI played in New Chandigarh on Saturday.

After the match referee accounted for time allowances, it was determined that the Indian team was four overs short of the target rate, while the West Indies team was two overs short. Consequently, action was taken against both teams under the ICC Code of Conduct regulations.

West Indies make history in a thrilling match

After losing the first two matches of the series, West Indies staged a magnificent comeback in the third ODI.

  • First two matches: India won the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram by 8 wickets and the second in Guwahati by 8 wickets—achieving a record run chase—thereby securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
  • Third ODI: In the third match, West Indies captain Shai Hope played a historic captain's knock, scoring an unbeaten 162 off 143 balls. West Indies successfully chased down India's massive target of 351 runs to win by 5 wickets. This marks the highest successful run chase by West Indies in the history of ODI cricket.
