Salman Khan and Satnam Singh produced a strong performance in the men’s double sculls final at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.
The Indian duo completed the race in 6:13.25 to claim the bronze medal. They remained in medal contention for most of the race and secured third place during the final 500 metres.
China’s Yi Zudi and Yide Ni finished first to win gold, while Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekhrozbek Mamatkulov took the silver medal.
The bronze was an important achievement for Indian rowing at the Asian Games.

Salman Khan hails from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, and is the eldest among four brothers and two sisters.

After his father's death, Salman had to take responsibility for helping support his family. At the time, he also had a dream of joining the Indian Army, but financial responsibilities forced him to put that dream on hold.

The death of his father meant that Salman had to think about his family before his own ambitions.
As the eldest sibling, he faced the responsibility of supporting his younger brothers and sisters. His Army dream had to wait while he focused on earning money for the family.

Salman Khan Drove an Uber in Delhi to Support His Family
To earn a living and help his family financially, Salman started driving an Uber cab in Delhi.
For some time, driving became his primary source of income. However, his ambition to join the Indian Army remained alive.
Eventually, Salman decided to return to his original goal. He handed over his cab to another driver and spent around four months preparing for Army recruitment.
He cleared the physical tests and examination and successfully moved closer to achieving his dream.

He Revived His Army Dream and Joined in 2018
Salman eventually joined the Bombay Engineer Group in Pune on September 25, 2018.
His entry into the Army marked a major turning point in his life. It was also during his Army career that he discovered a sport he had never previously considered pursuing - rowing.
How Salman Khan Discovered Rowing After Joining the Army
After joining the Army, Salman’s physical abilities attracted the attention of coaches Satyawan, Satish Sirat and Prabhat Mishra.
The coaches encouraged him to try rowing. Salman was initially hesitant because he had never imagined himself pursuing the sport.
He eventually accepted the challenge and started training. His first inter-centre regatta brought an important breakthrough when he won a silver medal.
That result increased his confidence and encouraged him to continue competing in rowing.
From First Rowing Medal to Asian Games Bronze: Salman’s Rise
Following his early success, Salman continued to train and participate in rowing competitions.
His performances improved with experience, and he began collecting medals at different events. His progress eventually earned him a place at the Army Rowing Node at CME Pune in 2021.
The opportunity allowed him to focus more closely on rowing and develop his skills at a higher competitive level.
