On the fourth day of the Cape Town Test, South Africa were bowled out for 387 in their second innings, setting Australia a target of 288 runs for victory. The Australian side got off to a disastrous start in their pursuit of the target. In the very first session of the fifth day, Rabada began wreaking havoc on the Australian batters. He struck twice early on, and by claiming the wicket of Travis Head his third scalp of the innings he reached the milestone of 350 Test wickets.

The first innings of this match had not been particularly memorable for Rabada, as he managed only one wicket. However, he returned in spectacular form during the second innings. By taking the first three wickets of Australia's second innings, Rabada not only put his team in a commanding position but also earned the distinction of becoming the fastest fast bowler in terms of balls bowled to reach 350 wickets in international Test cricket.
