This decision by Neeraj Chopra comes at a deeply disappointing time, as he had recently appeared to be regaining his top form. On August 21, Neeraj recorded a season-best throw of 88.05 meters at the Lausanne Diamond League.
Although Neeraj did not explicitly mention the 'Asian Games 2026' in his post, the announcement that he is sitting out the remainder of the season clearly implies that he will be unable to participate in this highly anticipated tournament.

Neeraj Chopra Statement: Emotional Post on Social Media After Injury
Sharing details about his injury on social media, Neeraj Chopra wrote, "After a lot of hard work, I felt I was finding the rhythm I was looking for, especially after the 'season-best throw' in Lausanne. Unfortunately, shortly after that, I suffered a ligament tear in my ankle during training. After consulting with doctors and my team, I have decided not to compete for the rest of the season."
Expressing confidence in his recovery, he added, "It is incredibly disappointing, especially since I felt I was on the verge of hitting my stride. But as they say, setbacks are part of the journey. My entire focus is now on recovering well and coming back even stronger."

Neeraj Chopra's withdrawal comes as a massive blow to the Indian athletics contingent and his fans. At the previous Asian Games (Hangzhou 2023), Neeraj Chopra had clinched the gold medal with a massive throw of 88.88 meters. In that same event, India's Kishore Jena won the silver medal, securing a historic 'double podium finish' for India in the men's javelin throw.
