The incident occurred during the third over, when Ngidi—playing for the Delhi Capitals—attempted to take a catch while running in from the mid-off position. While attempting to field a shot played by batsman Priyansh Arya, he misjudged the trajectory of the ball; losing his balance, he fell heavily to the ground. As he fell, the back of his head struck the ground with significant force.

Immediately following the incident, players and support staff present on the field rushed to his aid. Several players, including Kuldeep Yadav and David Miller, appeared visibly concerned. The team physio arrived promptly and administered immediate medical attention to Ngidi.
