Former Indian team opener Gautam Gambhir has rejoined the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR has roped in Gambhir as a mentor for the next season. KKR CEO Venky Mysore confirmed Gambhir's joining on Wednesday. Gambhir will now focus on making the team a champion with coach Chandrakant Pandit.
Under his captaincy, Gautam Gambhir made Kolkata Knight Riders the IPL champion in 2012 and 2014. Under Gambhir, KKR qualified for the playoffs five times and reached the final of the 2014 Champions League.
KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan expressed happiness over the return of Gautam Gambhir. Welcoming Gambhir to the franchise, Shahrukh Khan said that he has always been a part of the family and our captain is returning in a different avatar like a mentor.
"Gautam Gambhir has always been a part of the family and our captain returns in a different avatar as a mentor. They are sorely missed and now our focus is on the never-say-die behavior and sportsmanship of Chandu Sir and Gambhir. Together, these two will create magic for Team KKR.
