Indian athlete Gulveer Singh has won the silver medal in the men's 10,000m race at the Asian Games. The 28-year-old Gulveer hails from Atrauli village in Uttar Pradesh, and this marks his second medal at the Asian Games; he had previously won a bronze medal for India in the same 10,000m event. In the race held on Friday, he secured second place with a time of 28 minutes 29.38 seconds.

Gulveer Singh made history for Indian sports at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. He won the silver medal in the men's 10,000m race in Glasgow, clocking a time of 27 minutes 49.78 seconds. In doing so, he became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in this event in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
Subsequently, he also won a bronze medal in the 5,000m race. He achieved another major milestone by winning two athletics medals in a single edition of the Commonwealth Games.
Gulveer made his mark after 2022
Gulveer Singh's career truly gained momentum at the 2022 Federation Cup, where he won a bronze medal in the 10,000m race. This victory earned him widespread recognition across the country. He subsequently delivered an impressive performance at the 2023 Asian Games; competing in the 10,000m event in Hangzhou, China, he secured the bronze medal with a time of 28 minutes 17.21 seconds.
India's Kartik Kumar won the silver medal in the same race. Following this outstanding performance, Gulveer came to be counted among Asia's finest long-distance runners.
Gulveer's performance improved under the guidance of coach Scott Simmons
In 2024, Gulveer traveled to Colorado Springs, USA, for training, where his performance saw a remarkable improvement under the guidance of coach Scott Simmons. Subsequently, he began setting several new records. He established new Indian records in the 3000m, 5000m, and 10,000m events. His records are as follows: 12 minutes 59.77 seconds for the 5000m, 27 minutes 0.22 seconds for the 10,000m, and 7 minutes 34.49 seconds for the 3000m.
