Asian Para Games 2026Indian para-archer Sheetal Devi has delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 Asian Para Games. She broke a seven-year-old world record by scoring 149 points in the women’s compound elimination round.

Sheetal achieved this remarkable feat during her pre-quarterfinal match against Chan Yuen. Her score surpassed the previous record by one point.

The previous world record of 148 points was held by Jessica Stretton. By breaking this record, Sheetal has set a new benchmark. A day earlier, she had also equaled the world record during the qualification round.

Performance at the Asian Para Games

This performance by Sheetal Devi marks a significant achievement for India at the Asian Para Games. She has been delivering consistently stellar performances, and the nation looks forward to her securing even more medals.

In the women’s compound ranking round, she equaled the world record by scoring 704 out of 720 points, while also setting a new Asian record. Subsequently, the duo of Sheetal and Toman Kumar established another world record by accumulating 1,402 points in the mixed team ranking round.

A Stellar Individual Performance

Sheetal’s individual score matches the record set by Turkey’s Öznur Cüre Girdi at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. She hit the 10-point mark 57 times, with 32 of those arrows landing squarely in the innermost ‘X’ ring.

With a total of 704 points, she also surpassed her own Asian Para Games record of 680 points, set in Hangzhou. The 19-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir was born without arms; she operates her bow using her feet, shoulders, and jaw.

Excellence in Team Events

At the Paris Paralympics, Sheetal won a bronze medal in the compound mixed team event. She also secured two gold medals and one silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games. Toman Kumar scored 698 points in the men’s compound ranking round.

Their combined score of 1,402 points achieved alongside Sheetal surpassed the previous mixed team world record of 1,400 points, which had been set by Sheetal and Rakesh Kumar in Ahmedabad earlier this year.
