Aaron Finch is known as an explosive opening batsman. Finch's place was under threat after Australia missed out on a place in the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup at home last year. Finch made his debut against England in 2011 and played 103 T20 Internationals for Australia, captaining 76 of them.
Announcing his retirement, the 36-year-old Finch said, "Realizing that I will not be able to play until the 2024 T20 World Cup, the time is right for me to step down as captain and allow the team to plan and prepare for the event." Remind that Aaron Finch made Australia the T20 World Cup champion for the first time under his captaincy. In Dubai in 2021, the Australian team won its first T20 World Cup title under the leadership of Finch.
Aaron Finch had retired from the ODI format in September last year. He said, 'It is a great honor for me to represent the Australian team for 12 years and to play with and against some of the greatest players of all time.' Be aware that Finch holds the record for making the best individual score in T20 International cricket. The right-handed batsman had scored a blistering 172 off just 76 balls against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Cricket Australia chairman Lachlan Henderson said Finch was one of Australia's best white-ball players. Henderson said, "While he was fiercely competitive on the field, Finch always played the game with a smile on his face and that too in the right spirit."
Aaron Finch scored 5406 runs in 146 ODIs at an average of 38.89 with the help of 17 centuries and 30 half-centuries. And in T20 International cricket, he scored 3120 runs in 103 matches with the help of two centuries and 19 half-centuries. During this, his average was 34.28 while the strike rate was 142.53. Finch was not very successful in Test cricket. He scored 278 runs in 10 innings of 5 Tests with the help of two half-centuries. His average was 27.80.
