Indian team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has made a significant statement regarding Rohit Sharma amidst speculation about his retirement. He has come out in support of Rohit following his poor performance.
India Batting Coach Sitanshu Kotak on Rohit Sharma: Amid the ongoing ODI series between India and England, there is widespread media speculation regarding veteran opener Rohit Sharma's poor form and his future in the ODI format.
In the second ODI played in Cardiff, Rohit Sharma played a rather sluggish innings, scoring 26 runs off 47 balls, a match India ultimately lost by four wickets.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that selectors are reluctant to consider Rohit Sharma for future selection as they look ahead to preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
Amidst all this speculation, Indian team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has come out in support of the senior batsman, clarifying that there is no pressure whatsoever on Rohit.
Coach's major statement on Rohit Sharma
During the press conference following the second ODI, when Sitanshu Kotak was asked about Rohit Sharma's future and the pressure mounting on him, he said, "I don't think a player of Rohit Sharma's stature would ever feel pressure.
He is far too great and accomplished a player to let such pressure affect him. Yes, it is true that he hasn't scored runs in the last two innings, but I don't think that makes any difference.
Even today, it looked as though he was set for a big innings, but such things are common in cricket.
A Different Kind of Innings at Lord's
Kotak completely dismissed the notion that Rohit Sharma is struggling to score runs; he expressed hope that Rohit would display a different style of play in the final match at Lord's on Sunday.
The batting coach said, "Sometimes, on a given day, batsmen simply don't find the momentum they are looking for. You might see a completely different innings from Rohit Sharma at Lord's.
I wouldn't use the word 'struggle' to describe his performance. The Cardiff pitch had uneven bounce, which made him feel uncomfortable playing the shots he usually hits in the air. Rohit didn't get the deliveries in his hitting zone.
Questions Raised Over Rohit Sharma's Recent Form
Rohit Sharma's performance this year has been underwhelming. In the eight ODIs played so far, he has scored only one half-century and holds an average of 30.12, managing a total of just 241 runs.
He also failed to make a significant impact during the ODI series against Afghanistan prior to the England series. Consequently, clouds of uncertainty appear to be gathering over his ODI career.
