Pittodrie Stadium History
Pittodrie Stadium commonly known as Pittodrie and the namesake of the surrounding residential area is an all-seater stadium located in Aberdeen, Scotland. Primarily used for football, it has served as the home ground for Aberdeen F.C., a Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) club established in 1903. Prior to this, the ground hosted matches for the original Aberdeen F.C. from 1899 until the merger that created the current club.
With a seating capacity of 20,866, Pittodrie is the third-largest stadium in the SPFL and the largest in Scotland outside the Central Belt. The stadium has pioneered several design innovations including the invention of the 'dugout' and in 1978, it became one of the first all-seater stadiums in the United Kingdom.
