We know that the Indian Premier League is a much-awaited series for cricket fans. There were some incredible reveals, some unexpected finds, and some undervalued purchases at the IPL 2024 Auction. But there were also some bad, or more accurately, some overpriced, and worst-buy franchise players. The worst purchases made by each team at the IPL 2024 Auction are listed below.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Players bought:

Worst Purchase: Mustafizur Rahman, with spinners dominating in Chepaux and Devon Conway, Daryll Mitchell, Mahesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana filling the abroad positions, it is doubtful that 'The Fizz' would be included, especially with the arrival of Rachin Ravindra.

2. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Worst Purchase: Mohammad Nabi; an Afghanistani all-rounder is extremely unlikely to be included in the MI lineup since Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madhushanka will be the team's top bowlers as foreign players and Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma already fulfil the all-rounder position.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

Worst Purchase: Yash Dayal; Alzarri Joseph fills Faf Du Plessis, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell's overseas positions, while Tom Curran serves as a backup. RCB lacks a great spinner, therefore Alzarri Joseph's purchase completes their abroad slots. The only player the Royals lack is a great spinner; it would have been preferable to have acquired a spinner rather than the patchy Yash Dayal. Siraj is now the top Indian bowler in the team.

4. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Worst Purchase: Rovman Powell, since he is a very awful option to play against a spin attack due to his inconsistent performance and extreme unreliability. Additionally, his poor footwork will make him a simple target for seamers who roam across the pitch.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Worst Purchase: Gus Atkinson, as the foreign berths will be occupied by the indispensable players Mitchell Starc, Jason Roy, Andre Russell/Sherfane Rutherford, and Sunil Narine and Mujeeb ul Rahman, considering the spin-friendly tracks at Eden Gardens, will compete for the fourth spot.

6. Gujarat Titans (GT)

Worst Purchase: Umesh Yadav, as there is little place for a bowler considering that GT has great pacers in Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai, who fulfil their pacer needs, and Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed's spin quality.

7. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Worst Purchase: David Willey, as Shivam Mavi's arrival enhances the pace of assault with Mark Wood, who is extremely dangerous, and Mohsin Khan's presence offers a far superior left-arm speed option.

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Worst Purchase: Wanindu Hasaranga. Although Hasaranga is a superb bowler, the purchase of Hasaranga just doesn't make sense because he won't get much playing time, especially considering that SRH already has valuable overseas players.

9. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Worst Purchase: Worst Purchase: Rilee Rossouw, as he is currently 37 years old and incredibly unreliable. PBKS should have made a far greater investment in players like Josh Inglis and Steve Smith.

10. Delhi Capitals (DC)

Worst Purchase: Kumar Kushagra, as DC should have invested in potential Indian bowlers instead of a batter, and Delhi has a strong batting lineup. Their bowling department, on the other hand, is deficient, with just two or three players. Additionally, Stubbs and Hope are great additions to the Delhi-based team.
