The ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) holds special significance as the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 will be selected based on its performance in the first half of the mega event. This big event is going to be held in West Indies and America immediately after IPL.
About a month before the start of the tournament in June, all the teams will have to submit the list of their 15 players. Now 5 new Indian players for T20 World Cup 2024 on the basis of performance in IPL! Who will be included in the Indian team for the World Cup and who will not?
Rohit Sharma has been selected to captain India in the T20 World Cup. His Mumbai Indians teammate Suryakumar Yadav is also included in the team. If Jasprit Bumrah is fit then he is also ready to join the team. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is almost certain to be in the team, all-rounder Akshar Patel will definitely be in the team, but not necessarily in the starting eleven.
However, the interesting thing is that questions are being raised on the place of former captain Virat Kohli in the Indian team.
Explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been in excellent form for the last one and a half years. Rohit Sharma is the second opener, so Jaiswal will have to face a tough challenge from Shubman Gill for the second position as opener.
Explosive batsman Rinku Singh can also make a place in the middle order with his excellent performance for Team India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Suryakumar and Hardik are sure to remain in the team, while players like Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Verma and Shivam Dubey are probably giving a tough fight for a spot.
Many talented players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh Sharma are in the race for the sole wicketkeeper spot in the team. BCCI is not happy with Kishan's nature, hence his selection will not be considered. Meanwhile, Pant has shown a glimpse of his old style in the IPL. Considering the personality of coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma, Pant can be included in the team.
Experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not be able to join the team after recovering from his surgery. It is possible that Siraj will support Bumrah in the fast bowling department. Mukesh Kumar and Deepak Chahar can also be considered as fast bowling options. However, the wildcard option will be LSG's talented and emerging fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who has been a revelation so far in IPL 2024.
It is almost certain that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel and chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be included as spinners in the team. With Yuzvendra Chahal out, talented leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi will have to perform well in the IPL to make a place in the team.
