West Indies Announces Squad for ODI Series: The West Indies Cricket Board has announced its squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope will captain the team, while Shimron Hetmyer makes his return to ODI cricket. Hetmyer was part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in the 2026 IPL but failed to deliver a strong performance; despite this, he has been included in the team.
The Sri Lankan team is set to tour the West Indies later this month for a multi-format series between the two nations. This tour will feature a series comprising three ODIs and an equal number of T20 matches. Additionally, a two-match Test series, part of the World Test Championship, will also be played. As the ODI series is scheduled to take place first, the Cricket Board has, for the time being, announced only the ODI squad.

The leadership of the ODI squad has been entrusted to Shai Hope. The West Indies have not yet qualified for the 2027 World Cup, making this series crucial from a qualification standpoint. The Windies have won five consecutive ODI series on home soil and will be aiming to secure another victory in this upcoming series to bolster their chances of qualifying for the World Cup.

Several players have made a comeback to the squad, including Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie. Joseph had been sidelined due to a back injury, while Motie was unable to participate in last year's tour of New Zealand. Shamar Joseph has also returned to the team. Hetmyer's return was arguably the most significant development for the West Indies; having delivered stellar batting performances during the 2026 T20 World Cup, Cricket West Indies views him as a pivotal player for their 2027 World Cup campaign.
