ICC ODI World Cup: West Indies has announced its team for the qualifier round of the 2023 ODI World Cup to be played in India later this year.
The West Indies team will have to play qualifiers to make a place in the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year. The World Cup qualifiers will be played in June in Zimbabwe. For this, the 15-member West Indies team has been announced. All-rounder Keemo Paul and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Moti have got a place in this team. Before the World Cup qualifiers, the West Indies team will also play a 3-ODI series from UAE. For this also a 15-member team has been announced. It includes 4 uncapped players – left-handed batter Alik Athanaj, Kevan Hodge, Dominic Drakes, and Akeem Jordan. Powell and Moti played the last ODI in July 2022. After this, both could not be a part of the New Zealand series due to injury.

However, Shimron Hetmyer has neither been selected in the World Cup qualifiers nor in the UAE tour team. Shai Hope will be the captain for the ODI series against UAE for the World Cup qualifiers. At the same time, Rovman Powell will be the vice-captain of the team for the qualifiers.
Apart from Powell, the players participating in the IPL who have been selected in the World Cup Qualifier team include Jason Holder, Akil Hussain, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Myers, Nicholas Pooran, and Romario Shepherd. All of them have been allowed to return to the Caribbean for a short break before arriving in Zimbabwe.
