In IPL 2026, several young players and some seasoned veterans delivered magnificent performances. However, there were also certain names on whom franchises spent crores of rupees to acquire or retain, yet whose performance this season proved to be extremely disappointing. This list includes three Indian players, two of whom were also part of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup.
They emerged as some of the top 5 biggest flops of IPL 2026. Following the conclusion of the league stage, several big names including players purchased at record-breaking prices during the auction failed to perform in a manner commensurate with their price tags.
1. Cameron Green (KKR)
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spent ₹25.20 crore to acquire Cameron Green at the auction. However, Green proved to be quite disappointing with his performance. With the bat, he managed to score only 322 runs across 14 matches at a strike rate of 145, registering just two half-centuries throughout the entire season. In the initial matches, Green was recovering from an injury, which prevented him from bowling; furthermore, he failed to make any significant impact with the ball even in the later matches of the season.
2. Hardik Pandya (MI)
For Hardik Pandya, who took on the responsibility of captaining the Mumbai Indians, this season proved to be nothing short of a nightmare. In 10 matches, Hardik managed to score only 206 runs at a strike rate of 138; with the bat, he failed to register even a single half-century. Meanwhile, with the ball, he could only claim four wickets. Furthermore, due to injury, Hardik was unable to play in several matches during this period.
3. Rishabh Pant (LSG)
IPL most expensive player, Rishabh Pant whom the Lucknow Super Giants acquired for ₹27 crore delivered a disappointing performance in the 2026 IPL season as well. Pant scored a mere 312 runs across 14 matches, maintaining a strike rate of 138. Throughout the entire season, Pant managed to register only one half-century. Once again, Pant's failure with the bat proved to be a heavy burden for LSG. This outcome took a personal toll on Pant; consequently, as soon as Lucknow's campaign came to an end, he decided to step down from the captaincy a decision that was subsequently accepted by the Lucknow team management.
4. Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
Mumbai Indians spent ₹16.35 crore to retain Suryakumar Yadav. Just prior to the 2026 IPL, India had successfully defended their T20 World Cup title under Suryakumar's captaincy. However, Suryakumar struggled significantly to score runs this season. Across 13 innings, he managed to score only 270 runs at a strike rate of 147. He scored two half-centuries this season. Suryakumar's failure with the bat was a major reason behind Mumbai Indians' poor performance.
5. Nicholas Pooran (LSG)
For IPL 2026, the Lucknow Super Giants retained Nicholas Pooran for ₹21 crore. However, Pooran failed to live up to expectations this season. He scored a total of 234 runs across 14 matches, maintaining a strike rate of 127—a performance that was merely average. Pooran managed to score only one half-century this season, which proved to be quite a challenging one for him.
