Ravindra Jadeja dropped or given rest from Sri Lanka tour

The Indian team was announced on 18 July (Thursday) for the three-match ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav will captain Team India in the T20 series. At the same time, Rohit Sharma will be seen captaining in the ODI series. Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain for both T20 and ODI series.

The special thing is that left-handed all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has not got a place in the team for the ODI series. 'Sir' Jadeja retired from T20 International after Team India's title win in the T20 World Cup held last month. However, Jadeja had then made it clear that he would continue to give his best for the country in the remaining two formats (ODI and Test). Now Jadeja not being selected for the Sri Lanka tour is a bit of a surprise decision. So let's know whether Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped from the Sri Lanka tour or has he been given rest?

Ravindra Jadeja dropped or given rest from Sri Lanka tour

No statement has been issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding whether 35-year-old Ravindra Jadeja has been dropped or given rest. However, it is believed that the selectors have decided to try other options. Washington Sundar and Axar Patel have emerged as alternatives to Jadeja in limited overs cricket. Axar had shown a strong game in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Who can forget the final match of that World Cup, where Axar played a stormy innings of 47 runs to rescue India from crisis. Axar's bowling was also strong in that tournament and he took 9 wickets. On the other hand, Washington Sundar also impressed in the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe and took 8 wickets with his off-break bowling.

While Ravindra Jadeja's performance in T20 World Cup 2024 was not very special. Jadeja scored only 35 runs. On the other hand, if we talk about bowling, he took one wicket. A player's poor performance creates opportunities for another player. This saying fits Axar and Sundar. Axar and Sundar have definitely capitalized on the opportunities they got, due to which they have got a place in the ODI team.
