Double hundred on debut in Tests: Playing a Test match for his country is a historic moment for any player and if that player performs well in that match, then that match becomes memorable for him. If we talk about batsmen, so far in Test history there are 111 players who have scored a century in their very first Test.
The first batsman to make a record of scoring a century in the very first Test was Charles Bannerman of Australia, who made a unique record by scoring a century in the very first Test played between Australia and England in 1877. England's Tip Foster made his Test debut against Australia in Sydney in December 1903 and scored 287 runs in the first innings itself. Tip Foster also holds the world record for scoring the most runs in an innings of a debut Test, which has not been broken in the last 117 years. With the help of Foster's brilliant double century, England (577 and 194/5) defeated Australia (285 and 485) by five wickets.

West Indies' Lawrence Rowe was the second batsman to score a double century in his debut Test. He made his Test debut against New Zealand in Kingston, Jamaica in 1972 and also made a unique record of scoring a century in both innings. Rowe scored 214 in the first innings and 100 not out in the second innings. Rowe still holds the world record of scoring the highest 314 runs in a debut Test. That match between West Indies (508/4 and 218/3) and New Zealand (386 and 236/6) was a draw.

Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Brendon Kuruppu made his Test debut against New Zealand in Colombo in 1987 and played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 201 runs while opening. That match between Sri Lanka (397/9) and New Zealand (406/5) was a draw.

New Zealand's Mathew Sinclair made his Test debut against West Indies in Wellington in 1999 and scored 214 runs in the first innings itself. Due to his excellent innings, New Zealand scored 518/9, in response to which the West Indies team could only score 179 and 234 and the hosts won the match by an innings and 105 runs.

South Africa's Jacques Rudolph made his debut against Bangladesh in Chittagong in 2003 and scored an unbeaten 222 runs in the first innings itself. Rudolph shared a tremendous partnership of 429 runs for the third wicket with Boeta Dippenaar. South Africa (470/2) defeated Bangladesh (173 & 237) by an innings and 60 runs in that match.

West Indies' Kyle Mayers made his debut against Bangladesh in 2021 and gave the team a historic victory by scoring a double century in the fourth innings of the match. In reply to Bangladesh's 430, West Indies scored 259 in the first innings. Bangladesh scored 223/8 in the second innings and set a target of 395 runs for West Indies to win.
Kyle Mayers shared a brilliant 216-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Nkrumah Bonner (86) and gave the team a surprising win on the last day. West Indies chased the fifth-highest target in terms of victory in the fourth innings and Kyle Mayers remained unbeaten on 210.

New Zealand's Devon Conway played a historic innings of 200 runs against England at Lord's on June 3 and registered his name in the record list. With the help of Conway's 200 runs, New Zealand scored 378 runs in the first innings. This is the record for the highest score by any batsman in a debut Test in England.
