Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have not won the IPL title even once since 2014 and will be looking to win their third title under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer in the upcoming edition. Shreyas Iyer could not play in IPL 2023 due to injury and Nitish Rana captained KKR in his place.
Under Rana's captaincy, KKR won only six out of 14 matches and finished their campaign at seventh place in the points table. Ahead of the tournament, KKR had made a lot of headlines for buying Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc by paying a huge sum of Rs 24.75 crore in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. After spending huge amount on the Australian bowler, it will be interesting to see how the fast bowler performs in the upcoming tournament.

Jason Roy in the role of opener, Shreyas Iyer to handle the innings at one-down, Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer to provide pace, Rinku Singh to finish things off and power-hitter Andre Russell. This could be a nightmare for the opposition bowlers. Even though Sunil Narine has not been at his best with the bat in recent years, he can be dangerous at any time.

KKR's spin attack has never been a matter of concern, their fast bowling has not been consistent over the years. After releasing players like Umesh Yadav, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee, this time their department will be more dependent on Mitchell Starc. Gus Atkinson and Sakaria are new recruits to this role but it remains to be seen if they can contribute well.

Gautam Gambhir, who led KKR to the title twice, has returned to the team as a mentor. In the last two editions, he associated with Lucknow Super Giants and helped them reach the playoffs. It would be great if former India cricketers can give advice to the boys to win the title. Apart from this, Shreyas Iyer is also returning as captain. Along with batting, his contribution in decision making will be important for the team.
