Match-winners such as regular captain Paul Stirling, star fast bowler Josh Little, and all-rounder Mark Adair are not part of the squad. In their absence, the responsibility on the remaining senior players will double.

The experienced Lorcan Tucker is the ideal choice to take charge of the team. Having made his international debut in 2016, Tucker has played 91 T20I matches for Ireland to date. He possesses extensive captaincy experience, not only at the national level but also with his inter-provincial team, 'Leinster Lightning'. He has previously stepped into the captaincy role during the T20 World Cup when Stirling was injured.

I am conscious of the responsibility to represent the group of players and the organisation well, as well as the captains who came before me. With this new appointment of Tucker, the era of split captaincy has fully commenced in Irish cricket. Ireland now has distinct captains for all three international formats: Andy Balbirnie leads the Test team, the experienced Paul Stirling remains the ODI captain, and the responsibility for the T20I format has now been entrusted to Lorcan Tucker.
