Following reports of strikes by Pakistan in various parts of India, the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Dharamsala was abruptly canceled due to increased security concerns. The match, which was the 58th of the season, was abandoned midway, forcing both teams to share a point each.
The game was halted under dramatic circumstances as floodlights at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA) suddenly went out, plunging the venue into darkness. Players were swiftly escorted off the field, and the stadium was evacuated as a precautionary measure. At the time of stoppage, Punjab Kings were comfortably placed at 122/1 in 10.1 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh unbeaten on 50 (28 balls) and captain Shreyas Iyer yet to open his account.
Prabhsimran had earlier stitched together a dominant 122-run opening partnership with Priyansh Arya, who smashed a quickfire 70 off just 34 deliveries. Rain caused the toss to be postponed, but PBKS had won and chose to bat first.

The abandonment comes as a setback for Punjab Kings, who are strong contenders for a playoff spot, sitting third in the points table with 16 points from 12 matches. Delhi Capitals, led by stand-in skipper Akshar Patel, have 14 points from the same number of games and were looking to regain momentum after a strong start to the season.
With reports of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities prioritized the safety of players, staff, and spectators. Several cities across India experienced blackouts, adding to the chaos. It is anticipated that the BCCI and IPL governing council will examine security procedures for the tournament's remaining matches.
