In the 42nd match of IPL 2024, Punjab Kings created history and chased the highest score in the history of T20 cricket and the league. Kolkata Knight Riders had set a target of 262 runs, which Punjab achieved with eight balls remaining after losing two wickets. By chasing 262 runs, Punjab broke the year-old record of successfully chasing the biggest target in T20 cricket. Last year, South Africa chased 259 runs against West Indies in Centurion.
