Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Faf du Plessis as their captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Virat Kohlistepped down from the position at the end of the last season and it also coincided with him getting relieved of his international duties as the captain of the Indian team. Du Plessis is indeed an experienced campaigner having led South Africa from December 2016 (name all-format captain in August 2017) to February 2020.

He is the seventh skipper of the side taking over the reins from Kohli. RCB has started their pre-season announcement and in the same event along with Du Plessis’ announcement, the new jersey was also launched.
The RCB official Twitter handle posted a picture of Faf and Kohli wearing the new kit of the franchise. Muthoot Fincorp is the prime sponsor of the franchise along with a few others as well. Kohli has always taken a lot of pride playing for RCB over the years and wearing its jersey as well. This time was no different as the former skipper said the loved the color and the style of the kit.
“I love the design. I love how the dark blue blends into the red and the detailing of the jersey is amazing. I love the new RCB typeface as well and the integration of the RCB lion. The material is so comfortable I absolutely love it and the moment I wore it, I felt something special. I can definitely say, this is my most favourite RCB jersey, ever!” the 33-year old said.

The franchise retained Virat Kohli (15cr), Glenn Maxwell (11 Cr), and Mohammed Siraj (7 Cr) ahead of the mega auction. In the auction, they roped in 19 players including Faf du Plessis for 7 crores. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) play their first game against Punjab Kings in a day-nighter on March 27 at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.

After being announced as the skipper of the side, Faf kept a word on Virat’s importance for the side and how he will count on his experience of taking to their maiden IPL title.
