In the second T20I on Thursday, Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis both scored fifty runs to lead Sri Lanka to 206/6 against India. Mendis (53) and Pathum Nissanka (33) had an 80-run partnership as Sri Lankas openers were asked to bat first, giving them a strong start. The visitors subsequently lost momentum as a flurry of wickets were taken by Indian bowlers, led by pace sensation Umran Malik (3/48). Charith Asalanka (37) and captain Dasun Shanaka (56 unbeaten) were able to push their team beyond the 200-run threshold.

Dasun Shanaka, the captain of Sri Lanka, put on an all-around performance, picking up two wickets in his last over while also scoring 50 runs in 20 balls to lead his team to victory and a 1-1 tie in the series. He received assistance from Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis in the batting department as well as Kasun Rajitha and Maheesh Theekshan in the bowling department.
