Regarding the ODI series, sources said that Hardik has sought leave and regular captain Rohit Sharma has been informed about this. The official said, 'Taking a break from ODIs is due to personal reasons. The kind of news going on in the media that Hardik has fitness problems, it is completely wrong.' Either KL Rahul or Shubman Gill can be made the captain in ODIs as Rohit will also not play in the series against Sri Lanka.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had clarified that star players should also play domestic cricket when they are not playing for the national team. However, Rohit, Virat Kohli and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have been exempted from this. The BCCI wants all Test specialist players to play at least one match of the Duleep Trophy before the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Sources said, this time there is no regional selection for the Duleep Trophy, only the national selection committee will select the team for the Duleep Trophy.
